Places
Bedfordshire has two main towns: Bedford to the north of the county and Luton to the south. Other smaller towns include Biggleswade, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Houghton Regis.
Bedford is historically a market town, built upon the banks of the River Great Ouse and centrally located for London, Oxford and Cambridge. The most important and attractive feature of the town is the River, and much of the ongoing development within the town has focused around this area.
Bedford is a lively town with an array of pubs, restaurants and shops. What’s more, it plays host to a range of events across the year such as the Bedford River Festival, International Kite Festival and the Victorian Christmas Fair.
Luton is a hugely diverse town catering to all tastes, ages and cultures. It has good rail links to London and is surrounded by superb countryside.
Luton offers a wide range of entertainment facilities including the Hat Factory arts centre, providing a variety of theatre, music, comedy, cinema, dance performances and workshops. Luton Library Theatre hosts contemporary and traditional arts reflecting the multi-cultural community. In the town centre, the Galaxy Centre features a multi-screen cinema, bowling, bingo, nightclub and several restaurants. Luton also plays host to Europe’s largest one day Carnival.
Biggleswade is a small Market Town located just 10 miles from Bedford.
Dunstable is well served by major roads and a motorway with good access to Luton.
Leighton Buzzard sits between Luton and Milton Keynes and is well known for the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway.
Houghton Regis is sandwiched between Luton and Dunstable and forms part of the Luton and Dunstable Urban Area.
