Benefits

POLICE FEDERATION

The Police Federation of England and Wales is the representative body to which all police officers up to and including the rank of Chief Inspector belong.

The Federation today represents the interests of over 139,000 police officers, bringing their views on welfare and efficiency to the notice of the government and all opinion formers. The Federation negotiates on all aspects of pay, allowances, hours of duty, annual leave and pensions. It is consulted when police regulations are made, dealing with training, promotion and discipline.

It takes an active interest in a wide range of subjects, which affect the police service, and puts forward its views on the members’ behalf. Thus, it not only acts as a staff association, but also as a professional body, able to influence both living standards, through pay and other benefits, and the development of professional standards.

Membership is open to anyone, although UNISON is under no obligation to provide assistance for matters that arise before you become a member.

Other benefits for UNISON members include advice and legal representation, mortgage and savings advice, and discounted holidays.

KEY WORKER HOMES

Bedfordshire Police are working alongside with Key Homes East alongside the NHS, Fire Service and County Councils. Key Homes East is a specialist in affordable housing across Central and Eastern England, and has helped thousands of people to find a home of their own at a price they can afford. What’s more, Key Homes East are a government appointed HomeBuy agent, responsible for marketing all low cost home ownership schemes in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The schemes Key Homes East offer include:

  • Open Market HomeBuy - purchasers are typically expected to fund around 75% of their purchase through a mortgage and/or savings. The balance of the purchase price will then be secured through an equity loan from the Homebuy agent; the maximum equity loan is not to exceed £50,000.
  • New Build HomeBuy - this applied to newly built homes offered by Key Homes East and other housing associates on a part-buy, part-rent basis.
  • Intermediate Renting – these are homes available to key workers at rents set lower than the private sectors.
